Rangers get some of their best shots off in 3-1 win over Canucks
The Rangers are in good shape, as they scored four goals in the first period of a 3-0 victory over the Canucks on Saturday.
The Rangers had a chance to tie the game, but the Oilers tied it up at 4:38 of the first when Adam Clendening scored the game-winner.
The victory gave the Rangers a 4-0-0 record on the season.
Jared Spurgeon, who had a goal and an assist, also had an assist in the win.
Pavel Buchnevich scored for the Canucks, who were without Jannik Hansen, who was suspended for the first two games of the season after he tested positive for an anabolic steroid.
The Canucks lost 2-1 to Colorado on Saturday and have lost six of their last seven.
The Rangers had another solid performance Saturday, winning 2-0 over the Kings.
They were also able to hold off the Islanders, who also were without Matt Donovan, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury.
The Islanders had a strong performance, winning 6-4 over the Coyotes on Saturday before falling 4-2 to the Canucks.
The Islanders were without John Tavares, who missed the team’s last four games with a concussion.
The Coyotes also had a solid showing Saturday, defeating the Capitals 4-1 in overtime.
The Oilers are still missing captain Connor McDavid, who is out until March 16 due to a concussion, and forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who suffered a shoulder injury in Saturday’s loss to the Kings and is out four weeks.
McDavid and Nugent are two of the team, along with Ryan Carter, who scored the winning goal in the game.
Carter was suspended four games in December for a hit on Dallas Stars goalie Jhonas Enroth.
Carter, who spent a season with the Oilers, is expected to return this season, but there is a chance he could play in only three or four games.
Nugent-Goethals has also been suspended for two games for his hit on Capitals goalie Braden Holtby.
